Change

Letting Go.

About the Picture

At my workshops, we do one or more writing prompts to the inner critic, to the inner child, or to ourselves. Things we want to let go of. Things we need help with. We also often write words about ourselves that we want to leave behind or embrace. I believe words have a lot of power behind them and the words we choose to speak, even to ourselves, have impact.

This was from our "Facing the Inner Critic" Firewalk and Workshop back in April 2025. Roman, Rider, and Alexa (left to right) are letting go of their inner critic messages.

It's hard to let go. I've seen some presenters and videos just telling people to let it go, to stop thinking about someone, to stop thinking about the past, the future, and to be present. Almost like demons were casted out and we're suddenly freed.

I don't think it works that way. We are working to change our defaults and some of these patterns have been around since childhood. Deeply ingrained beliefs about ourselves and how we expect people, the world, and even God to work. It is easy at the first bump in the road, to automatically go to our tried and true--yet dysfunctional patterns.

That powerlessness to change often makes most people quit. They unfortunately believe that it's impossible to change. This part of themselves (inner critic) is too powerful, too loud, etc. It's that black and white, all or nothing, perfectionism thinking that derails people. Because most people try to solve their problems with the same tools that created them. Playing right back into their inner critics' control.

There's an old concept that people seeking recovery need to embrace. Self-compassion. I have lived my life this way for a very long time, it is going to take time and work to change. I accept that and I am going to make mistakes and that's ok. I trust that a power greater than myself will help me.

Upcoming Events

We usually break up our events into two parts. Since we have limited workshop seating. The firewalk builds upon the workshop, but it is a separate experience.
